# Free legal help, if you qualify. > As of August 2026: no service is operating. This page is a pledge, and it will say so until the day that stops being true. That is the promise. It is being built, and it is not running yet. This page tells you what it will be, who it will be for, and what is true today. No form. No card. Nothing that pretends otherwise. The rule the whole thing is built on: the lawyer is kept in. Until one is in, nobody pretends. ## What is true today - **Service.** No service is operating. Nothing here can take your case or answer a question about it yet. - **Your situation.** Nothing on this page is advice about your situation. Nothing here has read your story, because nothing here can. There is no box asking for it, on purpose. - **Help today.** Real help exists right now, run by other people. It is listed just below, before one more word about this page. - **Joining.** The list is not open yet. The one question it will ever ask is published further down this page, so you can hold us to it. - **Cost.** When it opens, it will be free for people who qualify. Free means free: no card, no trial, no surprise later. ## Real help that exists now Your problem might be today, not someday. These doors exist now, and other people run them. They are listed here because they are real, not because they are ours. - **Ask a question.** ABA Free Legal Answers is run by the American Bar Association. If your income is low, you can ask a licensed lawyer a written question there, for free. The Legal Services Corporation lists the offices it funds, by place, so you can find yours. Search your county court name plus the words self help. The waiting lists at these doors can be long. That is not their failure. It is the gap, and it is why this page exists. ## Why this exists **For 92% of their civil legal problems, low-income Americans get no real help.** The Legal Services Corporation's Justice Gap study (2022): low-income Americans did not receive any or enough legal help for 92% of their substantial civil legal problems. `Source: justicegap.lsc.gov, read 31 July 2026.` ## Who this will be for Nothing here can check anyone yet. This section only explains the plan, so you can see the promise is scoped, not vague. The exact test will be published before anything ever asks you a question. - **Income.** People with low income. The line will follow the same kind of income test that legal aid offices already use. - **Problems.** Everyday civil legal problems: housing, family, debt, and clearing old records. Not criminal cases. - **Where.** One state first, done carefully, before anywhere else. If you would not qualify: the list of real help above is for everyone, including you. There is no paid version of this page, and there never will be. Free if you qualify is a boundary, not a tease. ## How it will work This is the plan being built, written here as a blueprint. None of it is running today. - **A machine drafts.** The paperwork, the forms, the letters. Machine work costs almost nothing, and that is what makes free possible. - **A student checks.** A law student reads the draft, questions it, and learns from the questioning. - **A lawyer signs.** A licensed lawyer reviews the work and signs it. Nothing goes out without that signature. - **Every step logged.** The record shows who did what, and when. You pay nothing at any step. ## Be first when this opens The plan is to ask you for one thing and nothing else: a way to tell you when this opens where you live. That list is not open yet, so there is no field here to type in. Instead, here is the whole future form, published first, so the promise is on record before the form is. - `field 01` · your email · so it can say: it is open now - `field 02` · your state · so it only tells you what is true where you live - `the button` · “tell me when this opens in my state” · the only button there will be Notification, not intake. It will never ask about your situation, and the address will never be sold or shared. The plan behind this page is public, with every source named: what a machine may do, and what stays with a licensed human.
